Birk is a principal character from the 2014 television series Ronja, the Robber's Daughter, co-produced by Studio Ghibli. He is a young boy from the rival Borka clan.

Biography[]

Birk was born the same night as Ronja so he is the same age as her, 10 years old.

Appearance[]

Birk has shoulder-length orange hair that hang in bulky strands, and lovely blue eyes. He wears a blue tunic and a belt twice wrapped around his waist, kitted out with a pouch and sheath that holds a knife.

Personality[]

Birk is a cheeky, fun-loving and rational boy who tends to be realistic rather than fanciful, in contrast to how Ronja is. He is level-headed and is able to think on his feet, calmly assessing any situation he is met with. He is gently charismatic — so charming indeed, it quickly frustrates Ronja's initial determination to dislike him.

Birk cries

Birk, though usually emotionally steady, ends up crying in a moment of serious character development.

For most the series shows little emotional variation. Mostly seen with an even, serene smile and the occasional cocky smirk, the only emotion he tends to express passionately is anger. Later in the series, particularly during the Bear's Cave arc, some of his serene demeanour melts away and feelings of grief and jealousy show through.
