Hisako (久子) is an artist who appears in Studio Ghibli's film When Marnie Was There, a film directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi.

She likes to draw the Marsh house where she spend a lot of time as a child with Marnie. Later on in the story Sayaka found Hisako's painting in her room. At the back of the painting Anna Sasaki read her name. So Anna and Sayaka go visit her to ask about Marnie. Then she revealed Marnie's past.

Etymology[]

  • The name Hisako means "long time" (久) (hisa) and "child" (子) (ko).

Trivia[]

  • In Joan G. Robinson's novel, Hisako is called by her pet name Gillie.
